How do I import shipping costs?

Shipping costs can be imported into MarginDriver via API integration, file upload, default settings in the UI or manual entry. Click on the option below that best describes your data scenario for detailed instructions on each method.

API Integration

MarginDriver currently supports direct integrations with the following shipping solutions/fulfillment services:
  1. Fulfillment-by-Amazon (FBA)
  2. ShipStation
  3. Desktop Shipper
  4. ShipWorks
Once integrated, MarginDriver will automatically import the shipping costs for all orders shipped using these solutions. Integrations can be established during the Free Trial Signup or any time afterwards using this link

File Upload

If you are using an unsupported (no active integration) shipping solution, you can still upload shipping costs for each order via flat file upload.

From the Select File Type menu, choose Generic Shipping File Upload

Click Download Template.

Open the downloaded CSV file.

Populate the CSV file with your data.

You must use the same Order ID in the file upload as you see in the MarginDriver UI.
  1. The best way to get a full list of MarginDriver Order IDs for a given time period and/or sales channel is to perform a search/filter on either the Order Detail or Order Analytics pages and export them to a CSV file.
  2. Copy the list of Order IDs over to the Generic Shipping File and then populate the remainder of the file with your shipping data.

Once the file is properly populated, save it as a CSV and return to the File Upload page.

Ensure that Generic Shipping File Upload is still selected on the Select File Type menu.

Click Choose File, select your saved file and click the green Upload button.

Your file name will then appear below in the File Upload Status section.

When the Status value is Complete, your data changes will be active in MarginDriver.

Using Estimates

If you are unable to import shipping costs using the methods described above, there are options for populating your shipping costs using estimates.

Estimated Shipping Cost per SKU (File Upload)

If you have reliable estimates of how much it costs you to ship each of your SKUs, you can populate MarginDriver with those values and apply them to your orders are they come in. This can also be a useful solution if you use a third party logistics (3PL) provider for fulfillment and they charge you a set rate for each unit of SKU that they ship.

From the Select File Type menu, choose Generic SKU Shipping File Upload

Click Download Template.

Open the downloaded CSV file.

Populate the CSV file with your data.

Cost Per Additional Unit Factor*
Here is an example of how the Cost Per Additional Unit Factor works in practice:
  1. The Shipping Cost of a SKU is set at $5.00
  2. The Cost Per Additional Unit Factor is set at 0.5
  3. A sample order includes Product Quantity of 4 for that SKU
  4. The total shipping cost of the SKU for this order is calculated as follows:
    1. Shipping Cost + ((Product Quantity-1) (Shipping Cost x Cost Per Additional Unit Factor))
    2. $5.00 + ((4-1) ($5.00 x 0.5)) = $12.50
Sales Channel Name**
Applying Unique Shipping Costs per SKU to Specific Sales Channels
Each SKU can have a unique shipping cost for each sales channel. To apply a new SKU shipping cost to a specific sales   channel, include the Sales Channel Name (as it appears on the Sales Channels and Integrations page). To apply a new SKU   shipping cost to all sales channels, leave the Sales Channel Name field blank.

Estimated Shipping Cost Per Order (Cost Settings Page)

Scroll down to the Default Shipping Cost Per Order section.

Use the sales channel drop-down menu and the date selection tool to choose the sales channel(s) and time period that you with to apply the new shipping cost setting to.

You will have a choice to apply an estimated shipping cost to each order as a percentage of the order revenue or as a flat dollar amount:
  1. % of Shipping Revenue
    1. Use the slider to set the percentage of each order's revenue that will be applied as the shipping cost.
    2. If the slider is set at 80% and an order comes into MarginDriver with a shipping revenue of $10.00, MarginDriver will apply a shipping cost to the order of $8.00 ($10.00 x 0.80 = $8.00).
  2. Flat $ Amount Per Order
    1. Enter a flat dollar amount to be applied as the shipping cost for every order in the sales channel/date selection filter.
Click Save before leaving the page.
