MarginDriver users need to calculate a single cost of goods sold value for each product that is sells on its various sales channel.
MarginDriver will store a single product cost value for each unique SKU number. If the same SKU number is used on multiple sales channels, the same product cost value will apply across all sales channels.
There are several options available to MarginDriver users to get products costs into the app depending upon where and how this data is stored in the user's source systems.
The direct API method import relies on an API connection between the user's source system and MarginDriver. MarginDriver must have a direct integration with the source system in order to pull this data automatically. This can be either a marketplace, ecommerce platform, order management software or dedicated inventory software depending what data each makes available. Reference the MarginDriver integrations page for a full list of current integrations.
A direct integration can be set up during the initial sign up or by visiting Settings > Sales Channels and Integrations > Data Sources and choosing the type of source you would like to integrate.
Users can manually bulk import their product costs (as well as other product attributes like Product Title, Product Brand and Product Category) by uploading a .csv file at Settings > File Upload. The file upload instructions can be found here. Please note that product costs imported via flat file upload will override any values that were imported via API. This allows users to update product costs directly in MarginDriver. The user can revert to using product costs from an API connection by deleting the product cost value on the Settings > Cost Settings page.
The Cost Settings page enables MarginDriver users to manually input product costs for individual SKUs or set them as a flat percentage of product revenue.
Manually Input Individual Product Costs
The product cost values for individual SKUs displayed in the table reflect the product costs currently in use by MarginDriver.
Costs in Black: Product cost values displayed in black are values that were either imported via API or bulk file upload.
Costs in Orange: Product cost values displayed in orange are estimates calculated according to the Estimated Product Cost Factor slider. The slider estimates only apply to products with no cost values - from either an API or file import.
Users can edit these values at any time and click Save Cost Factors in order to update the active product cost.
Estimated Product Cost Factor
The slider enables users to set all unpopulated product cost values as a flat percentage of the product revenue for that SKU. For example, if the Estimated Product Cost Factor slider is set at 50% and the product revenue for a given SKU in a particular order is $10.00, MarginDriver will apply a product cost of $5.00 (per individual unit). The Estimated Product Cost Factor slider will only apply if the product cost field for a SKU has not been populated by any of the other methods described above.
